Mr. K. R. Raman - Chairman

Mr.K.R.Raman now aged 72 years was closely associated with His Holiness Pramacharya Sree Chandrasekara Swamigal for many years.

During those years perhaps His Holiness would have found the desire and urge of Mr. Raman to serve the society in some way or other and that might have been the reason His Holiness had Advised Mr. Raman to start an Ashram for the old age men and women and also for the children who are all deprived of care and love of near ones.

With the Blessings of His holiness he had ventured this JANAKALYAN SEVASHRAM in the year 1997 at Mumbai with one inmate, a 72 year old woman.

With lots of difficulties, he has been successfully running the Institution by providing the basic needs like food, clothes, medicine and shelter and the present strength of Mumbai Ashram is 60 0ld (Gold) people ,30 VEDA learning Children  and 200 destitute Children( Local Maharashtrians).

Despite his continues efforts and hard work, this could not have been achieved without the help of many philanthropists who were & are helping in different forms like donating money, sponsoring adults or children, sponsoring expenditure on festival days or important days of their individual families, or sponsoring part of the monthly expenses spent for Rice, milk, medicine, books, electricity, rent for the premises etc.etc,

He has not stopped with this. He spotted like minded people and initiated them to start similar services at cities like Varanasi, Calcutta, Mysore, Palghat, Madurai, Nagappattinam, Kallidaikuruchi, Chennai, Baroda, Haridwar, Udjayini and Ahmedabad.

But now among the above branches only Branches in Chennai, Mysore, Palghat, Baroda, Kallidaikuruchi and Ahmedabad are able to survive that too with many difficulties due to the raising cost of commodities, rent etc.
But there is no variation, fluctuation or depression in Mr. Raman’s mind.
Whenever we ask him He says “This human RAMA follows Lord KRISHNA’s words in Bagavad Geetha. Do your duty. Leave the rest to me.”

HARE RAMA  ………… HARE KRISHNA..

Dear Reader,

The above information’s were collected from his close friends and admin people of all Ashram branches. When we asked Mr. Raman himself of how his heart and soul has gone for the Society, he saidWe were from the poorest family and my father died when I was studying 7th standard leaving behind my mother, two younger brothers and two younger sisters. I was the eldest .We were staying in Triplicane,  Chennai without a shelter. Mother went for cooking to earn and I used to carry the cooked item called ‘SUNDAL’ to sell at Marina beach after my Classes. On rainy days beach will be empty and I shifted location to Central Railway station. There Police used to catch me and put behind bars as there was no permission to sell such items. Some times some good hearted people will release me from jail. But still that very poor income was not enough to run the family. We lost two of my younger sisters and one younger brother as we had no money to pay for Doctor and medicine when they were ill. Nobody helped us.

I was able to get 80% in 8th and got my scholarship. Next day of my 10th exam I joined as counter salesman in Handicrafts emporium. All the other seven counters were managed by middle aged ladies and I used to help them also. Simultaneously I was Studying Typing and Shorthand. Within short span I passed in higher grade in both. Seven sales counter ladies presented a Pant for that Deepavali festival and that was the First Pant I wore in my Life. Joined Simson Groups Of Companies as Steno and went to Bombay during Strike Period. Again I got a steno Job.

At those times got connections with Sankara Mutt. I was able to pass Five exam in Hindi language. As I was fluent in Hindi, I was in charge of arranging North India Tours for His Holiness Kanchi Aacharyas.
I think now you have all the answers."
