Smt. V.R. Mangalam. Age: 78 years

She is a Widow with no children. Her younger sister’s son has brought her to the Ashram. He is employed in Mumbai and his wife is employed in Chennai. Could not keep this lady at their home because both are employed and their children are going to school.

More than that she has lost her hearing strength and with this disability leaving a lady alone at home was a risky affair for them.

Smt. K.V.Savithri. Age: 80 years

She is Unmarried. She Joined Ashram by 2004 along with her only sister who was also unmarried. They belonged to a very rich family. They lost their mother at a very early age and they were taking  care of their father who was not well. For this reason both did not get married. But when they lost their father, others have taken away the properties and made them orphans. Somehow one of their friend managed to bring them to Chennai and fed them. Now that friend’s children brought them to Ashram in the year 2004 as both of them lost their memory power.

Elder sister died in the Ashram on this April, 2009. Our SecretarySmt. Sankari’s son, Studying 9th standard did all the rituals for that sister. Now Savithri is pulling on.

This is perhaps because, she does not want to stay with any one.

Smt. Latha. Age: 47 years

She has joined the Ashram on 13th Aug, 2006. She is young widow with one child.

Her Husband was working in the Highways department, Thiruvannamalai. Due to the continuous daily torture by her husband, from the early days of her wedding, we believe that she became a psychic patient. After giving birth to a child she has lost the husband also.

Those people had given only temporary treatment for the mental disability, as when our secretary took her to Chettinadu Hospital, doctors confirmed that she should take daily medicines life long.

Her sister-in-law has adopted the child and now they are trying to get a job for that child in the same Highways department in which its father was working.

V.Manjula Age: 50 years

She has joined the Ashram on 6th july, 2006.

She is unmarried. She has lost her parents at an early age. She was taken care by her elder brother and his wife till the date she joined the Ashram.

She in mentally not matured fully. If we want her to do some work we have to tell her minimum 10 times to make her understand.

Because of her immatured talk, her brother’s to be married daughter, has lost four possible good alliances. That girl has started mentally depressed. But within these three years of manjula joining this ashram, that girl is married and has a child.

For the same reason, her widowed elder sister is also not ready to keep her, as that sister has to depend her only son for her livelihood.

But our Ashram takes care of her with all these minuses.

J.Balambal. Age: 70 years

She has joined the Ashram on 28th Aug, 2006. She is a widow and has three sons out of which two sons’ whereabouts are not known.

Her third son living in Chennai, has only one daughter and she is mentally retarded. His job is of travelling nature and his wife finds it difficult to maintain their daughter itself, as there is no guarantee of her calmness all the time. More ever our lady has become physically disabled in an operation in one of her legs and only with the help of walker she can move.

Hence she had to stay with her mother for some years and after her days she has joined the Ashram.

The other daughter has no children and hence she brings up her sister-in-laws’ child.
The only son is not able to be a balance between his wife and parents. He is also not coming out with the reason why his wife hates them so much. But he is affectionate. Anytime you call him he will immediately come to Ashram to see his parents.

He has two elder sisters, one at Hosur and the other at Bangalore.
The Hosur sister is a widow and the two daughter-in-laws of the Bangalore sister brought this man in to the Ashram as they felt they are not able to keep him due to his smoking habits and they felt that bad habit may spoil their children's mind and health.
Of course even today they share and send his Rs.1,500/=

For peace of mind she brought up her younger brother’s children and they ditched her by taking away all her money.
When she was in the height of depression, her friend by name Smt. Nagamma from Ambattur brought her to the Ashram.
Fortunately she gets her pension and Nagamma  Organizes and remits once in three months as she is also old.

She brought up her sister’s Children and her sister’s grand daughter who is now in Delhi, only brought her to the Ashtram.
She says two reasons. One is that she, at this age is not able to withstand the extreme temperatures of Delhi. The other reason is that this lady is an extreme sugar patient and when they go for job it will be risky to leave her alone as she faints often.
Of course we should appreciate, that this grand daughter take this lady to her place in Delhi for two months every year on a good tolerable climate season and drops her back here.

As he has to shuttle between these two places , he had no other alternative except leaving his mother in the Ashram.

V.Savithri. Age: 73 years

She has joined the Ashram on 18th May, 2009.
She is a widow and had only one son.
That son was so affectionate with her and even did not get married as he had a feeling that his wife would not keep his mother happy.
For the sake of his mother he sacrificed hid wedded life. It was quite unfortunate that he died 4 months back.
Imagine the mental agony and depression this lady will have.
She also has a problem in her leg and hence she can walk only with a walker. Her only sister brought her to the Ashram, as she herself is a dependant.
